Our Story
Sports San Diego: a 501(c)(3) nonprofit community enhancement organization supporting the second-largest industry in San Diego
Our purpose is to drive visitor demand to economically benefit the San Diego region by producing the Trust & Will Holiday Bowl, Rady Children’s Invitational, and California State Games and by recruiting, supporting, and hosting world-class sports events.
Sports Tourism in San Diego
Tourism, the second-largest industry in San Diego, employs approximately 194,000 people and contributes over $19 billion annually to the region’s economy. Visitor tax revenues directly fund essential services such as road improvement, police, fire, safety, lifeguards, parks, and more. Sports events have been a pillar of the tourism industry in San Diego dating back to the 1960’s.

EVENT PRODUCERS AND SPORTS COMMISSION
Our sports commission drives San Diego’s economy by recruiting, supporting, and hosting sports events. Each year, organizers select host sites for events ranging from youth tournaments and collegiate championships to major professional matches like the 2024 All Blacks vs. Fiji game.
Sports San Diego produces San Diego’s Biggest Holiday Party: the Trust & Will Holiday Bowl. Featuring an ACC and Pac-12 matchup, the 47th annual Holiday Bowl takes place in late December.
Founded in 1988, Sports San Diego produces the California State Games. Each year, this large-scale annual amateur sports festival features 17+ summer sports and three winter sports.
Sports San Diego produces the Rady Children’s Invitational, a two-day men’s college basketball tournament tipping off Thanksgiving Day. The 2026 field includes Georgetown, Saint Mary’s, Texas, and UCLA.
